Clinical interests
All diseases of the liver including alcoholic injury, Viral hepatitis (Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infections), Cholestatic liver disease and jaundice. Liver cirrhosis and cancer, Metabolic liver disease, ERCP, Assessment for Live-Liver Donor Transplantation and Cadaveric Transplantation.
Dr Holt is a Consultant Physician and Transplant Hepatologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Senior Researcher at the University of Birmingham. He is Lead Physician for the Birmingham Live-Liver Donor programme.
Dr Holt graduated with an Honours degree in Medicine in 1996. After training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology he moved to the Birmingham Liver Transplant Unit in 2002.
After training in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation he moved into full time clinical research. His studies on the stromal regulation of inflammation and liver fibrosis culminated in a Ph.D awarded by the University of Birmingham. He has published extensively and is a reviewer for several scientific journals. He is a regular invited speaker.
He specialises in the management of advanced liver disease and liver transplantation and has a particular interest in the endoscopic treatment of jaundice including ERCP and endoscopy.
